Training Institute

Catholic Diocese of Gorakhpur has been at the service of the people since 1984, taking up various initiatives in the fields of education, development and health care. It has extended its services in to seven civil districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh. It has a 'network of over 36 educational institutions that include primary, junior high school, intermediate and degree colleges. It has also a network of 850 men and women organizations in the rural areas of eastern Uttar Pradesh for social animation and social interventions. Catholic Diocese has been trying to make bridges among people to live for a cause in the society.

The curriculum development and design of all the para medical and nursing courses offered at Fatima Hospital are done by NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) and IMA (Indian Medical Association), New Delhi, Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi, State Medical Faculty, Lucknow. Fatima Hospital is collaborating with NIOS, IMC, SMF and IMA to make this noble venture into a reality.

BASIC B.Sc. (NURSING) DEGREE COURSE (B.Sc Nursing)

Introduction

This programme of study leads to a Basic B.Sc. (Nursing) degree from the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, under its affiliation to Medical Faculty, Lucknow and Indian Nursing Council (INC), New Delhi, with an intake of 40 seats open to both boys and girls.

Educational Objectives:

After this course, the graduates are expected: -
To understand the broad concept of the fundamental principles of quality nursing care and demonstrate skills in providing nursing care to patients of all age groups based on physical, biological and behavioural sciences, principles in an institution or a community setting.
To develop critical thinking skills in making decisions and demonstrate leadership qualities in various nursing situations.
To participate effectively as members of the health care team in promotive, preventive and restorative health services in line with the National Health Policies (NHP) and programmes.
To demonstrate skills in teaching and supervising nursing care in the hospital and the community setting.
To execute the latest trends and technologies to provide advanced healthcare services to the sick and suffering.
To recognise the need for continued learning and personal and professional growth.

Duration of the Course:

The B.Sc. Nursing is a degree course of 4 years.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Minimum age for admission is 17 years on or before 31st December of the admission year. The maximum age limit for admission is 35 years for Unreserved (UR), OBC, EWS, SC and ST; however, the maximum age for candidates with Physical disabilities will be 40 years.
  • Candidates with Science who have passed the qualifying 12th Standard examination (10+2) and must have obtained a minimum of 45% of marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB) taken together and passed in English individually from any recognized board.
  • Candidates are also eligible from State Open School recognized by the State Government and National Institute of Open School (NIOS) recognized by the central government having Science subjects and English only.
  • English is a compulsory subject in 10+2 for eligibility for admission in B.Sc. Nursing.
  • 5% of total marks in core subjects (PCB) in (10+2) are relaxed for SC/ST candidates. It can be 40% instead of 45% as stated above.

Selection & Admission

  • The selection of the candidates will be strictly based on the merit of the entrance examination (CET) conducted by Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh and the preference of the college given by the candidate.
  • Result of the Entrance Test shall be available at the website of the university.
  • Distribution of seats in different nursing colleges and seat matrices will be displayed before counselling.
  • Final merit list will be prepared only for the candidates who have obtained a minimum of 50% and above marks in the entrance examination
  • Counselling shall be held on tentative dates as per the university's schedule.
  • The selection of the candidates will be subjected to medical fitness.
  • No selected candidates will be permitted to join the course unless declared medically fit by the Medical Board appointed by the University. The decision of the Medical Board shall be final.
  • The Vice-Chancellor's decision shall be final in selecting candidates for admission to the course, and no appeal shall be entertained in this regard.

DIPLOMA IN GENERAL NURSING AND MIDWIFERY (GNM)

Fatima College of Nursing conducts a full-time General Nursing and Midwifery Course under its affiliation to Medical Faculty, Lucknow and Indian Nursing Council (INC), New Delhi, with an intake of 40 seats only for girls. Educational Objectives

After this course, the graduates are expected:

  • • To understand the broad concept of the fundamental principles of quality nursing care and demonstrate skills in providing nursing care to patients of all age groups based on physical, biological and behavioural sciences principles in an institution or a community setting.
  • • To develop aptitude, knowledge and skill necessary for assessing the nursing needs of the individuals, families and communities.
  • • To apply relevant knowledge in planning and carrying out safe nursing care activities.
  • • To co-operate with other members of the health team in the hospital or the community in the prevention of disease, promotion of health, restoration of health and rehabilitation
  • • To impart health knowledge to individuals and groups through health education.
  • • To demonstrate skills in the use of problem-solving methods in nursing practices.
  • • To exhibit an understanding of and commitment to professional behaviors of quality nursing care.

Duration of the Course:

The GNM is a diploma course of 3 years including 6 months of internship.

Eligibility for Admission

  • The candidate should be a female between the age of 17 [as of 31st December of that year] and 35.
  • The candidate should be single (female only) and of good character and behavior.
  • Minimum education is 10+2 classes passed, preferablyScience (PCB) & English, with an aggregate of 45% marks.
  • The candidate should be physically & mentally fit for doing the course.
  • The candidate should have a minimum weight of 38 kg & a height of 148cm.

Mode of Application

  • The application form and prospectus will be issued from the office of FIMS at Fatima College of Nursing in the months of May-June and the entrance exam will be conducted in the month of July based on the +2 exam results.
  • The form and prospectus shall be available on payment of Rs. 300/- in person or Rs. 320/- by D.D/Multi-City cheque favouring "Fatima School of Nursing" payable at Gorakhpur.
  • The application form shall be also available online on our website www.fatimahospitalgkp.com.
  • Any change in the admission process shall be displayed on the nursing college notice board and also shall be updated on our website.
  • Application forms duly filled in (by the candidate in her own handwriting) and the following enclosures should reach the office on or before the given date.

AUXILIARY NURSE & MIDWIFES (ANM)

Introduction

Fatima College of Nursing conducts a full-time Auxiliary Nursing and Midwifery Course under its affiliation to Medical Faculty, Lucknow and Indian Nursing Council (INC), New Delhi, with an intake of 40 seats only for girls.

The ANM is a diploma course of 2 years.

Educational Objectives

At the end of two years of study, the student is expected:

  • • To understand the broad concept of the fundamental principles of quality nursing care and demonstrate skills in providing nursing care to patients of all age groups based on physical, biological and behavioural sciences principles in an institution or a community setting.
  • • To learn first-aid, emergency nursing care and elementary medical care skills.
  • • To develop aptitude, knowledge and skill necessary for assessing the nursing needs of the individuals, families and communities.
  • • To provide skilled midwifery services to all mothers in the community and refer neonates and mothers at risk to hospitals.
  • • To assist in the health centers and maintain the records properly.
  • • To help society deal with primary health care activities in Community and Institutional Settings.
  • • To participate in all the National health and family welfare programmes at the community level.

  • The minimum age for admission shall be 17 years on or before 31st December of the year of admission.
  • The maximum age for admission shall be 35 years of age.

DIPLOMA IN MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY(DMLT)

Introduction

Fatima Institute of Medical Sciences offers a diploma course in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT) recognized by NIOS and Indian Medical Association (IMA), New Delhi. The course aims at training students in laboratory techniques and making them responsible for performing laboratory investigations relating to diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease. We have an intake of 30 students per batch per year. FIMS has applied to the State Medical Faculty, Lucknow for the affiliation of the DMLT course and we are hopeful to obtain recognition from the State Medical Faculty this Academic Year.

  • • To provide quality Medical Laboratory education to the students adhering to the syllabus and curriculum laid down, and prepare them to be the custodians of health in the community through clinical practices in the hospital.

DIPLOMA IN OPTOMETRY TECHNOLOGY (DOPT)

Introduction

Fatima Institute of Medical Sciences offers a Diploma course in Optometry Technology (DOPT) recognized by U.P State Medical Faculty, Lucknow. The purpose of the course is to provide qualifying students with the ability to perform visual examinations and relevant procedures included in the scope of Optometry (as stipulated by the professional Board of Optometry and Dispensing Opticians) in the clinical environment as an optometrist. The medium of instruction is English. We have an intake of 30 students per batch per year.
